YAMAHA Vocaloid 4 is the latest available version of Vocaloid editors - multifunctional and powerful voice synthesizers. It's a stand-alone application which can be used both by itself and with any DAW software. The fourth version of Vocaloid has such new features as Cross Synthesis tool, growling imitation, and Pitch editing tools.
The first one, Cross Synthesis, allows designing highly nuanced voice and overtones with samples from two main media libraries. The first library contains samples of powerful voice expressing deep and attacking emotion, the second one includes more expressive singing with various note release and sustain. There are a lot of sound effects to add to the mix, and the latest one is the growling simulation that adds hard and low tremolo to the simulated voice. It can be used to create a singing with more reality and variety.
Then comes Pitch Rendering tool that smoothes vocals between various pieces and brings them together. It uses intuitive graphics for vibrato levels display, so the process is easy to go through, and settings are clear and comprehensive.
Finally, Vocaloid 4 has Pitch Snap Mode for manual editing the final vocal simulation. The software usually adds a pitch curve automatically so that the result comes closer to the natural human singing. However, you can turn that off and use Pitch Snap Mode instead, creating the unusual sound of robot-like voices for techno and electro music.
